Let’s unpack what this is–ya think? Tanight’s the Openin’ Night of my brand new world premiere play–DOTTIE: The Sister Lives On, upta that Salt Lake Actin’ Company, smack dab in the middle of Marmalade Hills, where all the streets are named after famous jams and jellies. On Sunday February 19th, at 6:00PM alla the fun folks from The Gay Hot Spot are comin’ ta see the play in a big old gay group! Lawsie where could ya find more fun on a Sunday evenin’ that at SLAC with TGHS? Nowhere I tell ya! Sister Dottie is lookin’ farward ta this special perfarmance and the entire run of the show. Fun, laughter, a sex tape, and followin’ the escapades of Sister D as she moves through some pretty hilarious journeys.
It’s like they say–It takes the Village People ta make such a perduction come about, and I wanna go on record sayin’ that gratitude DOES begin with attitude. My attitude right now is joyful & thankful on this openin’ weekend, with the show selling eversa well–that we’ve even extended it a week, now closin’ on Sunday March 11th. The show is in the lovely and intimate Chapel Theatre at SLAC, and everyone is right up close and inta Sister’s business throughout the whole darn show.
Now, many of you have been askin’ what the show is about, and will ya understand it, if you’ve never seen Sister Dottie on stage. Gadfreys YES, I catch everyone in the audience up, and soon we’re off ta just tons a laughter, some self-reflectin’, and lots and lots of HOPE for a better world. This play centers around firmly Standin’ on the Sidea Love, and the fact that every human bein’ deserves respect, dignity, and most impartantly full equality–in every sense a the word! The play offers a brand new ‘Advanced Spaneesh Lesson’ fer those who may not be completely familiar with our special Utah way a talkin’. We explore facin’ our fears, love & loss, bullyin’ & violence, change & choice, family preservation & acceptance, learnin’ & turnin’, gay marriage & equality, and all with me–Sister Dottie S. Dixon as yer special guide. Fer neat–huh? Now I am not sure if my gay son Donnie will be in the audience the night of The Gay Hot Spot’s special show, but if ever there was a groupa guys that could bring him ta Salt Lake, it would be this groupa rowdy and naughty boys. That cute little bundlea energy Fernando and sleek & sexy Daniel tell me they are gonna have an after party fer the group too, in the SLAC Green Room, so I will stop in fer a bit and say hi.
I wanna share with alla ya what I have learned by doin’ this new play. I’ve learned ta collaborate, cooperate, care, and celebrate, things alla us should do every single day of our precious lives. I’ve been thrown inta the thicket of thought-provokin’ things all pertainin’ ta the “theatre” as they call it. Lawsie, things like team work, long & hard hours, trust & trustyworthyness, meetin’ deadlines, re-thinkin’ and examinin’ everythin’ I know–because others have been willin’ ta share and share bigtime ta reach excellence! It has been my humble honor ta have been all up inta these things, all the while havin’ a really neat time doin’ it up right. So please come and see me this comin’ Sunday, er Wednesday thru Sunday til March 11th. Thanks fer yer suppart, I love alla you sa much. People who deal with life generously and large-heartedly are difference-makers ALL! Things ARE A CHANGIN’ in this here world, because a difference-makers just like you. Best and Bless alla you THE GAY HOT SPOTers!
